about
Here it is, the first song we ever wrote together, in Galway, on a Monday in October 2014.
We had just come back from a week of songwriting on Inis Oirr, but weren't matched to write together on the island. Luckily, we both had booked time-out in Galway, so we met in the morning for coffee, then walked down the Claddagh and found a spot in South Park which offered a bit of sun and enough shelter from the wind so it wouldn't blow away our notepads.
But the weather changed around noon, and - with the first lines down - we went back to the city, for soup & sandwiches, to warm ourselves.
With the rain kicking in, we searched for a dry place to write and finally found it in Galway's public library, in the children's section, because we hoped the kids wouldn't mind.
And they didn't. Their interest in two adults with guitars - sitting on tiny chairs - was brief and they left us alone, minding their own business.
The song was finished there.
We recorded the first version in the lobby of our hostel, fragile and delicate... we played it in a coffee shop and walked down to the radio station the next day, hoping the story of two traveling troubadours from different parts of the world, who had just met on an island and wrote a song together, would attract enough interest to have us on air... the things you do, when you just wrote a song you believe in.
We certainly hope you will enjoy it. We also hope it offers a bit of comfort for those who are alone, and for those who aren't together, especially in the weeks to come.
If you have a radio show, online or going out through the wireless, we will gladly provide you with a broadcast copy.
Won't you stay with me
And lay down by my side
Won't you slow the chatter
Of my troubled mind
Whisper in my ear
It will be alright
When you hold me close
Be gentle with my heart
My feet are tired from walking
The roads are cold and dark
Won't you ease my burden
For I have travelled far
Won't you shelter me
From the noise of passing time
When you hold me close
Be gentle with my heart
When you hold me close
Be gentle with my heart
